Licence Agreements for Your Spinout

Once you have established your company, it must obtain a licence from UCPH in order to gain the rights to develop and commercialise the relevant invention.

Instead of lengthy negotiations, we use the national standard agreements for university spinouts (Model A and Model B). These models have been developed jointly by all Danish universities and industry organisations to provide researchers and spinouts with a fast, fair and transparent pathway from research to company creation.

The standardised licence models mean that:

  • you get clear, predictable and transparent terms
  • the process is much faster than traditional negotiations
  • you, UCPH and investors all know exactly what the framework is
  • the terms are founder‑friendly, and you can choose the model that best fits your spinout

You can read more about Model A and Model B in the national guideline used by all Danish universities.

The innovation partner who has supported you throughout the process will typically also assist you during the licensing phase. Their role is solely to ensure that the standard models are applied correctly.

If anything during the process raises questions or concerns, you are always very welcome to bring it up — we address issues openly and early, so you can feel fully confident throughout.

We also host introduction sessions on the standard agreements so that everyone — including those who are not yet at the spinout stage — can become familiar with them.
